9 yr old with eczema
hey there! im 19 years old and i have suffered with ecxzema my entire life since i was 2 months old, as i got older it got worse, i had it so bad on the back of my legs that during the summer i would have to sit on towels in school cause it would sweat so bad i would scratch until it bled everywhere, i have seen every single dermatologist in my area and outside my area and none had work until i went to one near gaston memorial hospital he gave me eladeal and it cleared it up quick it was completely gone! thank god cause i was so embarrased by it in school :( well about 2 years ago when i was pregnant with my daughter around 7 months it came back and it covered my entire body, face, arms, back, bottom, belly, neck, everywhere.(I had it so bad on my face it delevoped into an infection,) again i went through 8 different creams before it finally cleared up a little bit. and i had to wear that cream constantly there was so many i cant even think of the names of them now 2 years later after i had my daughter my eczema has been in and out i mainly get it on my hands which i have scars on my fingers and my right pinky nail looks wrinkly from it being so bad, ( my nail is ruined) i find that when i take a warm bath and use the soap St. Ives Oatmeal & Shea Butter it makes a HUGE difference and it feels amazing on my skin, it's hypoallerginc so it works well you should try that! and after my bath my lotion i use Aveeno Daily Mostiueriiser and it literally clears and cools my skin up within a matter of mintues, my face has gotten better cause i changed my soap, now i only have a breakout every couple of months cause the change in soap and lotion, trust me i've tried them ALL , my mom recently just developed eczema in her scalp and she would pick until it scalped her head and it would bleed, her doctor described preatozone( not sure on the spelling ) and it has helped but it is a steroid so it only helped a week but so far with shampoo we use dandruff shampoo like selsum blue or this kind i had to use over the summer with my eczema, called sublex and so far it works, also my 19 month old daughter has eczema on her neck, stomach, legs, and arms and i use baby aveeno lotion and wash and you have to put vasaline over it to protect the skin and her's has gotten alot better.
finding a dermatologist that works is trail and error trust me, ive been through them all and after 19 years finally found a good one.
Also try changing your Washing Liquid to something fragrance free, i have to use everything fragrance free an that helped a great deal, don't let her wear clothes that are really thick unless of course winter time, cause it irratates the skin and it cant breathe, my mom learned the hard way and dressed me in jogging pants all the time thinking cottom makes it better like they say where in fact it made it worse.
I completely understand how she felt cause even to this day if i have a break out i have people constantly say OH M GOD! what's wrong with your skin, or stay away from here she'll infect you, I've heard it all and you just got to teach her how to let it roll everyone is different and everyone has something about their skin they don't like, trust me i've now developed strech marks, and a HUGE baby pouch to go along with my eczema from my pregnancy and i hate it, it's something she will live with for the rest of her life their is NO cure just ways to make it somewhat better, like how i said i had it for years and years and for a total of one year it was completely gone and it came back and have been dealing with it again since. as she gets older when she reaches her adlut hood thre is a possible chance it will go away completely and may not come back for 10 years or more but she will always have atleats one flare up in those 10 years my dad is a prime example with his eczema. My whole family suffers from it but i'm the only one who has had the worse part with it and the longest with it, now im praying my own daughter wont have to go through what i did, but try the selsum blue shampoo, the St. Ives body wash, and Aveeno lotion and change your washing liquid to fragrance free and rewash everythiing in that and i hope it helps or starts it way to make it better! (:

I am happy to provide addition help if you would like. I completely changed my diet and after 2 years I am now 100% eczema free.
my 5 year old son has had exzema since birth. we have never slept through the night not once . we have tried everything there is they gave him steroids by mouth ,zertec , atarax , and every steroid cream you can name. he was also on elecon and elidel , please try to avoid these meds if possible after having my sone on elicon and elidel from 3 months old to 2yrs old i started doing research because they did not really help. elicon has been black listed and should never be given to a child under 2 and with all these creams there is huge health risk that far outweigh the itching and bad skin. they can cause3 cancer , blindness from cataracts ,weight gain/loss and they can cause them to become sterile.we still have not found a miracle cure there isnt one. we continue to use his zyrtec daily but we manage through with non perscription creams and lotions until something not so harmful comes along.the best thing we have found for his head is the different hair greases made for african americans , but only the natural ones for sensitive skin with no scent . since we are not african american we can not use alot of it and we find it works best if we massage it into his scalp with our fingertips while his hair is damp. for his skin we do wet wraps alot which is just roll gauze wet and then wrung out so it is just damp we first give him a bath only three days a week with ivory soap to wash and alpa keri bath oil in the water to help moisturize . we have also purchased a hand held shower head with a hard water filter built in and we do not give him a bath in any tub without the filter.after the bath we pat him dry do not rub , and then we coat his skin in aquaphor healing ointment we then take the damp gauze and wrap his arms and legs ,over the damp gauze we wrap dry ace bandages . this has all helped some without risky and fatal side affects altough he still suffers everyday. but he was also still suffering with the perscriptions just the same plus we were risking his life and long term health. all the perscriptions worked great for a short time and then would stop working . If anyone knows of any safe treatments we can try i'm all ears my heart is broken watching my child suffer everyday but maybe something i have shared will help give some people a little releif as they have helped my son alot... still praying to find a cure for this awful condition
Hi tallullahbug1 and others of the group. My name is Jeremy and I suffered from severe eczema for many years. I learned how to get my body to heal my eczema naturally and I can teach you the same. The body will heal itself only when it has enough energy left at the end of the day. Diet, medications, enviroment, allergies, and mindset all collectively use all the energy the body has for a day, leaving no energy for the healing process to take place. Only the body has the abily to heal itself. What I went though with eczema, I would't wish on my worst enemy. I have learned so much about health and nutruion and would love to help anyone who is willing to do what it takes to reverse thier condition (in this case eczema)and lead a long and healthly life. To be able to help and educate anyone is great, but to help a child is awesome. I currently work with a 13 yr old boy in California. You are probably skeptical and I understand. All I can say is give me a chance. My cell phone is 267-971-3944 and my email address is jeremy@mynaturaleczemahealing.com I will answer any questions you may have and explain my program. This is not a company, it is my personal information, please only contact me if you are serious about getting help.

Hi there Merry Christmas...I had/have Exzema very frequently. I rmember when I was young having my parents put the ointment on before I went to bed on my whole body and then I would "stick" to the sheets at night...Yuck! But that was then and now as I grew up I out grew many of the spells and now I only get it when I forget and get into something that triggers it. You don't say what lotion you are doing, so it will be hard to give suggestions.
Have you discovered what is causing her out breaks? Many times it is related to a topical irritation or allergic reaction to something. Like a shampoo, glass frames, conditioner or it can be something she eats. I had complete allergy testing and found out what I was allergic to, this was done by an allergist, as that is his specialty. Then I took several years of the desensitazation shots which really helped my skin. Dry skin can also add to the problem on top of the exzema. If you aren't seeing a dermatologist you should a regular MD will try and try to help you but it may take years for him to figure what works a dermatologist will know better.
Lastly don't you as a parent make such a big deal of doing her treatments or washing her hair, just make it as routine as possible, children react to our worries about something and if you think it is no big deal then she will too.
As far as kids doing each others hair suggest they each do their own and all use their own tools and products and have a contest as to who can makr themselves look the best. Not that it is catching but then someone won't know how bad her ezema is or isn't. By the way you can get a secondary infection in the open areas from other bacteria so keep her head clean. Your dermatologist can probably help her out the best. Hope this helps!
Sending hugs and prayers your way for strength.
